30th Century Man

I saw 30th Century man at Belcourt last night. It was really good. The first half was more of a typical documentary feel and the second half was about Scott Walker's more recent studio efforts. I don't know how I haven't heard of him before. It's pretty mind blowing. He started out in the boy band The Walker Brothers and slowly progressed into something else. I've never heard anything like it before. Brian Eno is in it. he listens to an old Walker Brothers song and shakes his head and talks about how disgusting it is that music hasn't progressed since that in the last 50 years. The strange thing is that Scott Walker has done exactly that. I really recomend getting something more recent of his. The Drift is his latest record. It somehow touched the subconcious when you listen to it, I've never experienced anything like it throgh music, it's very bizarre. I don't know how he does it. I'll be honest, he has a really weird voice, which I don't particularly enjoy, but if you get past that it will blow your mind. He is the original NIN and Radiohead (I don't care what you think, NIN is the evil twin of Radiohead).

UNKLE "Heaven"
Directed by Spike Jonze...one of my favorite directors. This one is beautiful. Watch it all the way through, it gets good about half way through. No CGI or special effects, it's all real. Apparently no one was seriously hurt, but it seems like a couple people got a little beat up. It was originally used in a skate video.

who would have thought that they were still coming out with cool stuff, let alone still a band. Personal Jesus is a brilliant song by them. I recomend listening to both the Johnny Cash and Marilyn Manson covers of it. Talk about contrast in interpretation...I love creepy dark stuff like this video, I think its because it makes me feel an emotional connection to it. I've always found it easier to feel some emotion from something dark opossed to something happy. I'm not depressed or anything, I just find it more interesting. Anyways here it is:

What a last couple days it has been...

Last night we played a show at ExitIn with Dear Future and Cool Hand Luke. It was a blast, I met a lot of cool people and the other bands were great. Turns out that Matt Kearney came to the show!

Tonight I was at a meeting with some people at PM and I saw Jack White and little Jack! I tried to play it cool because I was meeting with some people, but failed pretty miserably.

To top things off, I was exposed to this little gem the other day! Watch it all the way through, you won't regret it.

I got Hail to the Thief on vinyl today at Grimey's. Its official. I am never buying music in any medium besides vinyl for the rest of my life. I don't understand how, but I'm hearing things that I've never heard before. All i have to say is Johnny Greenwood is from a different planet. He makes me want to take theory classes so that I can attempt to comprehend what he is doing. Has anyone ever noticed the hint of Marvin Gaye in Thom York's style? Jakob mentioned it to me a long time ago and now it's all that I hear when I listen to him sing.


I also bought a Whigs album but haven't had the chance to listen to it yet.
This is new territory for me...buying music again!? What's this world coming to...all of the sudden I want to buy all of my favorite albums allll over again on vinyl. Not only does it sound fantastic, but the experience is wonderful. It forces you to listen to an album in it's entirety. You can try to multitask but it won't do much good because after a couple songs you'll have to flip the record.
